In science we have been investigating day and night using torches and globes. We have been able to explain why day and night occurs and why some countries experience more daylight/darkness hours than others. We have also been testing the impact of meteorites on the moon. We had fun creating our own crates and measuring the impact.
5/6I are making soup in DT this week. We started by researching soups from other countries and cultures and then evaluated a range of different soups according to their taste, texture, appearance and smell. The children learned how to peel, slice and chop vegetables safely and watched Mrs Ish make a demonstration soup – which was a hit! We then researched different seasonal fruits and vegetables before creating our own recipes for soup which we will be making later on this week. Perfect timing to warm us all up during this cold snap!

We would like to add some letters, pictures and cards to the hampers from our pupils to the residents. Over the next few weeks, we would love it if you could make something to add to the hamper. It could be a letter describing your favourite hobby or a picture or piece of art work or by making a Christmas card. Please can you hand your work into Mrs Sims by Monday 12th December.
I am the Chairman & Girls lead at Fleetwood Town Juniors FC. I know many of you from my time at Fleetwood Town Community Trust and I used to organise the Girls tournaments at Poolfoot Farm.

We dropped coloured water into baby oil and observed what happened. We then added effervescent tablets to create lava lamps. You can try this at home with vegetable oil if you don’t have any baby oil.
We then made ice cream using milk, cream, sugar, ice, salt and flavouring. See the full instructions on how to do this at home on the science sheet.
Willow carried out her our research to find out why coke and mentos creates a mini eruption! See the photo of her work to find out more.

Rossall Observatory
We had an amazing time at Rossall Observatory today. We learnt about planets in our Solar System and had a virtual tour of the night’s sky in the Starlab Planetarium.
We even got to hold a piece of rock from the moon!
The children asked lots of questions and learnt many mind-blowing facts about space to support their learning in class. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be on the look out for Jupiter as it will be visible in the sky over the next few nights – look south and see if you can spot it!
Today the Reception children have been creepy crawly hunting. They explored the area looking for specific creepy crawlies and collected what they found. Once collected they looked through the magnifying glasses to discuss what they could see with their partner. We found lots of worms! The children then ended their session with a delicious hot chocolate.
Ensuring even our youngest children remember. A lovely display.
Headteacher’s message for amazing writing in year 1. Fantastic!
Today we learnt about reversible changes and learnt that when chocolate melts, it is a reversible change. We melted chocolate and stuck them together to create a chocolate sculpture. We had a competition to see who could build the tallest! Congratulations to Darcie, Martha and Irissa who built a sculpture that was 9.5cm tall. Why don’t you have a go at home – if you can resist the temptation to eat the chocolate!
A massive well done to all our children who took part in the dance festival at the Winter Gardens on Tuesday. They are all stars!
Our children had a great time at the hockey festival today!

Year 2 have been doing some great art and DT work.
Today in science, class 5/6I investigated the effects of air resistance on different spinners. We changed the length of the propellers and correctly predicted that the spinners with the longest propellers would fall the slowest. We learnt that air pushes against the propellers as the spinners fall, creating more air resistance.
As part of our geography curriculum we need to develop views and attitudes to critically evaluate responses to issues or events in the news. This afternoon 5/6I took part in the geographical debate: Should Wales sell water to England amid the heatwave? This was a real issue in august of this year. The children worked in teams, researched, came up with arguments and then gave speeches to the rest of the class. I was really impressed with the quality of ideas and the passion when debating.
Head teacher’s message for improved handwriting and super attitudes to learning!

Super work on making healthy choices
An ambassador from BAE Systems worked with us today and we learnt about how rockets are launched into space. We made stomp rockets and were split into two teams to see who could launch their rocket the furthest. Well done to Harry on the red team whose rocket went the furthest!
This morning 5/6I were treated to a science lesson by Steve from BAE systems. The children learned all about rockets and made their own. There was the red team and the blue team. Each team’s rockets had different fins on them… and of course – the competition began!!! Which team could fly their rockets the furthest? Red team won. The children then discussed why more of the red rockets went the furthest (the science bit). They also discussed things that could change (variables) and things that could be improved. Steve than attached a paper plane to the fuselage of one of the rockets and the children predicted what would happen – no one quite expected it to fly up and then back in a loop. If you’re wondering where the pictures of the rockets are in flight – they were so fast that I couldn’t capture them! The children in my class can sure STOMP. Back in class Steve talked about forces (which links to our science topic) and challenged the children’s thinking. A fab morning
Today Reception have been on an adventure. They were turned into Kings and Queens of the forest! We explored our field looking for mini beasts and collected a selection of things to make our very own nature crowns. What a brilliant day we have had!
